Anti-Casino Task Force:
About

The Task Force was established in August, 2007 by the Plympton Board of Selectmen and given the following mission:

Mission of a Plympton Task Force to Address the Proposed Middleboro Casino

Given that the Town of Middleboro and the Wampanoag Mashpee Indian Tribe have entered into an agreement to create a major “destination casino” and resort,

And given that the Town of Plympton Selectmen held an open meeting of the town to determine its sense regarding the proposal

And given that the citizens attending this meeting overwhelmingly expressed that they do not wish to see the proposed casino project move forward,

The Board of Selectmen hereby call for the formation of a Plympton Task Force to address the Proposed Middleboro Casino to assist Selectmen and thereby the town in their efforts to prevent the development of the proposed casino project.

This Task Force shall be charged with:

  1. Identifying key strategies to ensure that Plympton’s opposition to a Middleboro-based casino is heard at all levels of government, including but not limited to the general voting public in the region and state
  2. Presenting and recommending these strategies to the Board of Selectmen
  3. Determining the resources required to support implementation of these strategies
  4. Conduct outreach and coordination efforts with other entities also opposed to the development of the Middleboro casino project, including (but not limited to) cooperation with other municipalities to enhance opposition efforts and writing letters on behalf of the Task Force to parties involved in decision-making around this effort.
In consultation with the Board of Selectmen, the Task Force shall also be empowered to take other specific actions in relation to the efforts to oppose the Middleboro casino project.
