School Building Committee:
About

The Plympton School Building Committee has been responsible for the Addition/Renovation Project at the Dennett Elementary School. The Dennett School was originally built in 1973, and was in need of additional space and renovation. At the May 2000 Town Meeting an addition and renovation project for the school was approved, and the necessary tax exemption vote for the project was passed at the May 2000 Town election.

Construction began in October 2001. The first phase of the project was the construction of a 10-classroom addition and a new gymnasium. The students and staff remained in the building during this construction. By August 2002 the first phase of construction was complete, and the students and staff were moved into the new classroom addition and into temporary classrooms and offices in the new gymnasium. In January 2003 the renovation of the existing building was complete, and the entire building was occupied.

The completed building has regular education classrooms which all have natural lighting and operable windows. There are classrooms for Special Education, Reading, Music, and Art, and a large new Library/Media center with a computer lab. There are adequate instructional and office spaces for all the educational programs offered at the school. There is a large new gymnasium which can be used by the entire community. Two new sports fields, a Little League baseball field and a soccer field, were also constructed at the school site as part of this project.
