Harrub's Corner - A Local Historic District

Harrub's Corner, located in North Plympton and centered around the intersection of County Road (Rte 106) and Lake Street, is a Local Historic District administered by the Plympton Historic District Commission. Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40c gives the Historic District Commission the authority to protect and preserve the district's historic assets and character.

Plympton Village - A National Register Historic District

Plympton Village, located in the center of Plympton is quite different. It is not a Local Historic District, but A National Register District. It was added was added to the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service on March 7, 2007. Plympton's Village area, consisting of the Green, Hillcrest Cemetery and surrounding buildings, has a rich and valuable history. The Plympton Historical Commission led the effort to attain listing on the National Register.

National Register listing has many benefits, including:

• Recognition of the importance of the area to Plympton, Massachusetts and the United States
• Limited protection from adverse effects of federally- and state-assisted projects
• Federal tax incentives for income-producing properties within the district
• Eligibility for matching state grants
• Typically increases the value of the properties within the district, and
• No interference with the owner’s right to alter, manage or sell the property when using private funds.

The Plympton Historical Commission has created a walking tour brochure of the District, with brief descriptions of each contributing building and its history. The brochure is also available at the Library, Town House and Historical Society.
