The Wiring Inspector enforces the Massachusetts Electrical Code. He reviews permit applications and plans for electrical work, and also keeps records of permits issued, inspections performed and plans approved. He inspects premises for which permits have been issued as the work progresses and also upon completion.

The Wiring Inspector issues notices and orders to rectify illegal or unsafe conditions and ensures compliance with all electrical codes. When required, he issues stop work orders, directs corrective action and follows up to assure the action has been taken.

He inspects all schools, public buildings, residential, commercial and industrial installations to insure conformance to specifications and building codes. The Wiring Inspector coordinates with utility companies for installation of electrical services and transformers, and later inspects those installations. He also makes scheduled and unscheduled on-site inspections during the course of construction work to assure conformance with codes, by-laws/ordinances, specifications and plans.
